Unilag VC urges President Tinubu to address security challenges
Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos has urged the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the security challenges currently faced by the country and to provide a suitable environment for healthcare professionals to thrive. Represented by Prof. Afolabi Lesi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Sciences), Prof. Ogunsola made this call to action during the induction and award ceremony of the 2024/2025 graduating medical and dental students of College of Medicine, University of Lagos.
Prof. Lesi went further by stressing the importance of health and education to national development stating that both aspects should continue to be prioritized.
During the induction lecture of Prof. Azeez Butali, Professor of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences at the University of Iowa, United States, he urged the newly inducted doctors and dentists to maintain their gratitude towards parents, lecturers and friends who contributed to their success.
Meanwhile, Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) urged the new inductees to undertake internships and postgraduate studies in the country.
“We need them here. The Federal Government is releasing funds to teaching hospitals, and they should take advantage of the opportunities available in the country.” He said, highlighting the need for healthcare workers to remain in the country.
Similarly, the Oath of allegiance for the newly inducted doctors and dental surgeons was administered by the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Prof. Fatima Kyari, officially ushering them into their professions.
