LASUBEB kicks off bid-opening procedure for 2023/2024 UBEC intervention projects
The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has kicked off the bid-opening procedure for the 2023/2024 UBEC intervention projects, showcasing the body’s dedication towards transparency and efficiency for the education sector. This follows the closure of submissions by bidders for the intervention projects.
During the submission process, 75 contractors participated in bidding for the intervention projects. Successful bidders are to be announced upon the completion of the assessment in accordance with selection guidelines.
In accordance with the LASUBEB Chairman, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, the exercise is an important stage in ensuring fairness and openness in government procedures. He went on to explain that the projects were publicly advertised, giving the bidders the required time to submit their applications prior to the deadline.
In addition, he addressed the adoption of the electronic process by Lagos State government to enhance public procurement, highlighting the fact that it allows for stakeholders to observe proceedings openly. The LASUBEB Chairman went further to remind the contractors that they must execute the projects according to specifications and to maintain proper standards, all within approved timelines.
He added that competent technical professionals will oversee the project implementation to ensure adequacy. This is in alignment with his stance at the pre bid-opening ceremony represented by Babatunde Williams, where he emphasized that the projects are aimed at improving the infrastructure of education and learning improvement in public primary schools across Lagos.
Meanwhile, Ogundare Akintayo, the Chief Procurement Officer of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency (PPA) declared that submitted bids will be evaluated before the announcement of successful bids. Furthermore, he explained that identified shortcomings will be communicated for correction by the supervising ministry while procurement regulations will impose sanctions on defaulting contractors.
The State Coordinator, Sunday Joshua who represented the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) commended Lagos State government for adopting technology in the public procurement. He noted the fairness, openness and confidence it gives to the project implementation. He added that the implementation of the projects will be a collaboration between UBEC and LASUBEB to ensure standards are met.
