Multiple feared dead as three-storey building collapses in Lagos

Nine victims have now been confirmed dead from the three-storey building collapse in Lagos. The three-storey building located in Alakija area, Old Ojo Road, Off Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Satellite Town collapsed on the 25th of June, reportedly around 11 am, leading to the loss of multiple lives. Rescue operations are still ongoing at the scene of the incident.

The collapse prompted an immense emergency response. Teams from the Lagos Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have intervened through swift mobilization to the scene to rescue survivors and recover victims underneath the rubble.

According to residents, the collapsed building was over 30-years old, serving both residential and commercial purposes. Cyber-cafes, a book shop, offices spaces, a photo studio, mobile phone repair shops and telecommunication outlets were operational in the building.

The scene of the incident appeared to be tragic as relatives mourned dead victims and displaced occupants strove to recover their belongings under the guidance of the emergency responders.

The actual cause of the collapse is yet to be determined by authorities, however, investigations are expected to begin after the rescue operations are concluded.
