APC Names Sonayon-James as Hamzat’s Running Mate for 2027 Lagos Governorship Poll
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as the party’s deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
The announcement was made by the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and published on the party’s official Instagram page on Monday.
According to Ojelabi, Sonayon-James emerged after extensive consultations and a careful selection process that considered competence, leadership capacity, grassroots acceptance, party loyalty, and her ability to contribute to the continued development of Lagos State.
“Her unwavering dedication to service, proven leadership abilities, innovative mindset, and strong commitment to the ideals of our party make her an outstanding choice for this important responsibility,” the party chairman said.
Sonayon-James will run alongside the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, in the 2027 governorship election.
The party described the Hamzat-Sonayon-James ticket as a blend of experience, innovation, and grassroots connection capable of advancing Lagos State’s development agenda and sustaining its progress.
Ojelabi expressed confidence in the ticket’s ability to deliver effective leadership and inclusive governance, urging party members and Lagos residents to support the APC in the forthcoming election.
The APC deputy governorship candidate currently serves as the Lagos State Deputy Woman Leader of the party. She is a governance and development professional with experience spanning public policy, sustainability, stakeholder engagement, human capital development, and community service.
A native of Badagry, Sonayon-James previously served as Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and has held several leadership positions within the APC.
Her emergence comes as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 governorship election, with APC leaders expressing optimism that the ticket will consolidate the party’s political dominance in Lagos State.
The official announcement was conveyed through a statement signed by Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi and published on the official APC Lagos State Instagram platform.
