Lagos to Shut Iddo Bridge Temporarily for Installation of Steel Beams
Motorists advised to use alternative routes as closure affects traffic on June 17 and June 21
The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary closure of the Iddo Bridge in Ijora, Apapa Local Government Area, to facilitate the installation of heavy steel bridge beams as part of the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction works being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works.
According to a traffic advisory issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, the bridge will be closed to vehicular movement during two scheduled periods: from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, to 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
The government said the temporary closure is necessary to ensure the safe installation of the steel beams on the bridge.
To reduce traffic disruptions, motorists have been directed to use designated alternative routes during the closure period.
Drivers travelling from Oyingbo and Yaba towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain have been advised to continue their journeys via Funsho Williams Avenue.
Motorists heading from Marina to Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain are expected to descend through the ramp leading to Iddo-Onigbe, connect to Oyingbo, and proceed through Murtala Muhammed Way.
Similarly, road users travelling from Ijora Olopa and Apapa towards Carter Bridge and Marina have been directed to access Eko Bridge through Apapa Road, then continue via Murtala Muhammed Way, passing through Iddo-Onigbe and Carter Bridge.
The state government appealed to motorists to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management officials throughout the duration of the closure.
It explained that the traffic diversion forms part of measures designed to support the ongoing rehabilitation of the Iddo Bridge being undertaken by the Federal Ministry of Works through the Office of the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos.
Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, urged residents and road users to comply with the advisory and follow traffic directions to ensure smooth movement and public safety during the exercise.
