Lagos expresses commitment to creativity at Eko schools Arts and Crafts Competition
The Lagos State Government once again expressed its unfailing dedication towards promoting creativity and empowering young talents through arts education as the Permanent Secretary, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Bopo Oyekan Ismaila has reaffirmed the commitment of the state during the grand finale and prize presentation ceremony of Eko schools Arts and Crafts Competition 2.0 grand finale, hosted at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja.
The Permanent Secretary went further to describe the program as one structured to identify, nurture and exhibit the creative potential of students across the state. She addressed the grant finale event as a celebration of creativity, innovation, culture and the boundless potential of young Lagosians.
It was reported that for this year’s theme “This is Lagos”, 489 participants registered for the competition, including 132 entries from schools across Lagos’ five divisions as well as some tertiary institutions. It consisted of different categories including sculpture, drawing, beadwork, painting, leatherwork, textile design, paintwork, digital art and upcycling. The artworks showcased were well suited for the theme as they were described as beautifully capturing the essence of Lagos.
“These outstanding creations demonstrated that our young minds not only appreciate our cultural values, but also possess the creativity and vision needed to shape a brighter future.”
Regarding the winners, Goodness Popoola a 400 level student of Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Abdul Rahman Saheed a 300 level of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) and Aina Samuel, also a 400 level student of Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) emerged first, second and third respectively in the tertiary students category.
The senior secondary category had Ajayi Pascal Maugbe, a SS2 student of Methodist Senior High School, Badagry, as the winner of the first position. Makinde Opeyemi Abraham, also in SS2, Millennium Senior Secondary School, at second place and Akinola Oluwatobi of Sango Senior Secondary School, in third place.
In the junior secondary category, Mufutau Aishat Opeyemi of Clegg Girls Junior High School emerged winner; Esther Oluwalonimi, of Ikotun Junior High School, as first runner-up, while Khadijat Saheed of Community Junior Grammar School, Akowonjo, as second runner-up in the competition.
The judge of the competition, Fola David, commended the participants, pointing out that the competition provided an opportunity for young talents to showcase their creativity and artistic potentials.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic Education, Mrs Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, the Head of Service said the initiative has provided a platform for the children to showcase their artistic abilities.
