Lagos Police arrest, recover weapons, drugs, charms from suspected cultists
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected cultist members of the Aye Confraternity today at Ago/Festac Bridge axis, during an intelligence-led stop and search operation, which led to the recovery of weapons, hard-drugs, sim-cards, phones, laptops and charms.
In the statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, a Toyota Camry XLE saloon car occupying two of the suspects identified as Emmanuel John, 24 and David Godwin, 28 was intercepted by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command. The interception, was followed by a search of the suspects, which led to the recovery of substances suspected to be hard drugs from the suspects. Preliminary interrogation of the suspects was followed by their confession to being members of the Aye Confraternity.
Upon further investigation, three additional suspected cult members identified as Samuel Owubokiri, 25, Adetona Seyi, 20 and David Chigozie, 25 were arrested and confessed to being members of the Aye Confraternity. Exhibits including military camouflage, weapons, hard drugs, laptops, phones were recovered.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspects include military camouflage, two machetes, one battle axe, one knife, five hundred SIM cards, five mobile phones, five laptops, charms and various substances suspected to be hard drugs. The suspects also confessed to being members of the Aye Confraternity.”
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command CP Tijani Fatai (psc), (mnips) reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating cultism and other violent crimes across the state and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperative.
