LATSMA introduces toll-free hotline to enhance emergency response, traffic management
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has introduced a new toll-free short code hotline, 3667 in a bid to strengthen emergency responses, improve traffic management efficiency and deepen public participation in the administration of road transportation across Lagos State.
The introduction of this new shortcode reflects a transformation of the agency from their former long-service code platform to a more technologically advanced, easily accessible and citizen centred communication system. The hotline is available on MTN, 9mobile (formerly Etisalat) and Glo service providers, which will enable millions of users have easy access to the hotline. The agency explained that callers can communicate with operators in English, Yoruba as well as Pidgin English.
The hotline, as stated is a platform for emergency response which means incidents such as vehicle breackdowns, traffic obstructions and stranded tankers as well as other emergencies can be reported. As highlighted on the Agency’s official X account (followlastma), “In the event of any road accident or irregularity, road users should promptly contact LATSMA’s newly introduced, easily accessible emergency hotline *3667* for swift intervention, as our operatives remain on ground and fully receptive to all observations and complains.”
In addition to being for emergencies, the hotline also serves as a medium for the general public to report the conduct, professionalism and operational activities of the LASTMA officers to ensure transparency and accountability within the agency.
Mr. Olalekan Bakare- Oki, the LASTMA General Manager spoke on the program and assured the public of discretion, as all reports received through the platform would be handled professionally and confidentially before being forwarded to the appropriate operational units for swift action.
